John's Personal Response

Personally, I enjoyed Act 1 more that I expected I would. Unlike some of the other books we've had to read in class, Hamlet seemed to just jump right into the action. Act 1 gives you enough information in a way that you clue in on how the plot is unfolding, but it withholds enough information to keep you interested and wanting to keep reading. Since this was the part we had to read, it takes time to get adjusted to the language.
If you don't really read it carefully, you can miss things or misinterpret important parts. The act ends after  the ghost of Hamlet's father tells Hamlet that it was Hamlet's uncle that killed him. By giving this information at the end of the act, it makes readers invent their own predictions and thoughts on what they think the following acts will contain.
